Pinks are usually to prevent invades which is why I like regular wards a lot more since you can place them deeper in their jungle. Deep wards can set up for buff invades. Usually only the support and jungler can deep ward but it's better for the jungler to do so since the adc will be harrassed if the support leaves. There's also a smaller chance of getting caught since most junglers can fight or run away.
